Wedding Card – Tips on What to Write

You spend hours looking at all of your options, finally settling on the perfect wedding card for the soon-to-be-married couple but when you get home and you sit down to write your wishes it just doesn’t feel right.

The best wishes for the newlywed couple should come from the heart, so make sure that what’s written inside the wedding card is from the heart too. You can share your feelings in a number of different ways – try writing about what makes them so special, either as individuals or as a couple. There are no set rules when it comes down to writing wedding wishes, but here are some ideas that might help.

Generally, wedding cards should be brought to the wedding reception and gifted to the couple then. If you’re unable to make it to the wedding reception, then send them a personalized card ahead of time but as close to the date of the wedding as possible.

Wedding Card Message Format

You might not feel the need to follow a specific message structure when writing your wedding card, but most people like to follow a recommended format. This is the suggested format for a wedding card message:

1. General congratulatory message

2. Heartfelt, warm wishes for their marriage in your own words

3. Something personal, whether it be advice for the couple, a joke or a memory

4. Sincere, loving sign off that reflects your personality. For example:

  • “Wishing you all the best,”
  • “With love,”
  • “Best wishes,”
  • “Warmest wishes,”
  • “Congratulations,”
  • “Congrats,”
  • “Cheers to your happily ever after,”
  • “Lots of love to you both,”

At the end of the day, your sincerity will come through and the couple will be happy with your thoughtfulness. Don’t put too much pressure on yourself and write how you feel. And if you’re not that close to the couple, a nice congratulations and wishing them the best for the future is never out of style.
